Result - the English slaughtered the Pequot. In 1675-1676 the Wampanoag Indians organized another effort to wipe out the invaders - joined by the Narragansetts and the Nipmucks. The alliance was led by Metacom, a son of [[British Colonies in America|Massasoit]], nicknamed King Philip. Result - force of 1k men under General John Winslow exterminated 3k at Narragansett Bay. The only colony that didn't slaughter the Indians was Pennsylvania. ## England's colonial empire England wanted the colonies to send back resources that weren't available in Britain. In an attempt to control the colonies, the Navigation Acts of 1660 and 1663 were passed: 1. No country could trade with the colonies unless the goods wer shipped in colonial or English ships 2. All vessels had to be crewed by at least 1/3 English or colonial folks 3. Certain colonial products, including sugar and tobacco, could be exported only to England or another English colony 4. Almost all the goods traded between the colonies and any European country had to be shipped by way of England The English then investigated the Massachusetts colony and recommended the king to cancel its charter. It was repealed in 1684. King James II reogranized all New English colonies into the Dominion of New England, appointed Sir Edmund Andros as its governor. Andros was a fuckface and did a lot of shit, so the Massachusetts colonists send their most prominent minister, Increase Mather, to London in 1687 to get shit fixed. [[Glorious Revolution]] happened, so Bostonians hustled Andros out of town + Mather succeeded in his task, tho a new charter was given. Worse than the original one, but still better than Andros' rule. Then the same happened in New York - Jacob Leisler led a revolt against Francis Nicholson, Andros' deputy. Tho Leisler was hanged afterwards. Soon, the English tightened up its regulation again, as well as creating the Board of Trade and Plantations, which had considerable influence. After 1696 the royal governors served as the most important link in the chain of imperial control. 9 colonies had royal-appointed governors, Maryland and Pennsylvania and Delaware were proprietary, Rhode Island and Connecticut elected their own governors.
