## Columbus
[[Christopher Columbus]] set sail from Spain in **1492**, with three ships - the Nina, the Pinta and the Santa Maria. About 5 weeks later, he arrived at an island in *the Bahamas* that he named **San Salvador**, although did not establish permanent settlements.

The first permanent European settlement was established by the spanish in the middle *1500s* in **St.Augistine, Florida**
