## Women
Women had greater freedom than anywhere else in Europe, although they still had to obey their husbands and were under the omnipresent danger of dying in childbirth. 

The group of people that suffered particularly badly during the Tudor period were the unmarried women, who now could not become nuns.

## Society
According to foreigners, "the English are great lovers of themselves", which confirms developed [[Nationalism in England|nationalism]].

In spite of the hard conditions of life, most people had a larger and better home to live in. E.g. almost all homes now had chimneys.
