#hygiene #skincare #skills ## Structure ### Sebaceous glands Sebaceous glands (сальные железы) are microscopic glands in the skin that open into a hair follicle to secrete an oily or waxy matter, called sebum (кожное сало / себум), which lubricates the hair and skin of mammals. ### Acid mantle The acid mantle is a very thin, delicate, and slightly acidic film covering the entire surface of human skin, serving as a protective barrier and reduces body odour. ## Types ### Oily skin Caused by overactive sebaceous glands. The skin takes on a shiny appearance; dilated pores become clogged, causing pimples and blackheads. Treatment: using products that contain specific essential oils that help restore and maintain the acid mantle, and gently drain sebum from the glands without stimulating them. Furthermore, make sure to cleanse the skin thouroughly and regularly with a mild cleanser. Follow with a mild alcohol- and oil-free moisturizer. After each [[Shaving|shave]], apply aftershave gel ### Dry skin Caused by insuffiecient sebum production. As a result, the acid mantle becomes unbalanced, and water has a difficult time penetrating the skin's surfaces. The skin becomes dehydrated, pores tighten. Treatment: avoid anything that is an astringent or contains alcohol. Use moisturizers that are rich in natural vegetable oils and essential oils that naturally enhance sebum production. ### Sensitive skin Evidenced by uncomfortable burning, itching, inflammation, redness, etc. Particularly reactive to toxins, stress, insufficient exercise and sleep, other factors. Treatment: treat with mildness and moderation ## Facial routine C-S-M-M: Cleanse, Scrub, Mask, Moisturize ### Cleanse Purpose is stripping skin of all toxins, perspiration, oils, etc. Cleanse twice a day at morning and before sleeping. Important to cleanse before [[Shaving|shaving]]. ### Scrub A scrub or exfoliant is a deep-pore cleanser and is ideal for all skin types. Unclogs pores, reoxygenates, stimulates the collagen-building process, etc. Use once or twice a week. Do NOT use a scrub right before or after shaving. Give the skin a chance to rejuvenate and heal (usu 24hrs enough) before/after scrubbing. Look for a scrub that has small beads in it; avoid those with a sandlike consistency or large beads, which can be irritating. ### Mask Some masks are for replenishing lost nutrients, others are for soothing and calming, etc Use a mask once or twice a week, preferrably at night (skin is more receptive to absorbing nutrients). Do NOT use a mask right before shaving. ### Moisturize Moisturize your skin twice a day: in the morning and at bedtime. Avoid products containing mineral oil, petroleum by-products.
