## Release
Released in 1985 in Japan and North America, in 1987 in Europe and Australasia on the [[Nintendo Entertainment System]]. It quickly rose to prominence and became a gold standart of [[Platform games]].

## Plot
The Mushroom Kingdom is overrun by the Koopa, a tribe of turtles, who turned its inhabitants (Toads) into furniture and building elements. The only person who can revert Koopas' black magic is Princess Toadstool (Peach), who is captured by the King of Koopas (Bowser). The protagonist, Mario, sets about to liberate the Mushroom Kingdom. Mario's other enemies include Goombas, aka fucking mushrooms.
